As part of the Wisconsin Association for Home and Community Education, Inc., mission we are participate in several international projects.
Turning Periods Into Pathways
When we mobilize girls and women, their communities and our world grow stronger. We are changing the status quo through quality menstrual care solutions, health education, and income-generating opportunities that give back days of opportunity and health.
We are starting to partner with the days for Girl Organization to make menstrual kits for girls in need in third world countries. There are 7 groups in Wisconsin at this time so there is one close to most everyone. If you would like to participate in this project contact Eileen Gottbeheat, WAHCE International Chair for more information.
Wisconsin Nicaragua Partners
The objective of the Learning Center Program is to provide and promote opportunities to develop skills that will improve vocational options, income, self-sufficiency and empowerment for people living throughout Nicaragua.
The training opportunities empower women/people with skills that can be put in practice from their own home or other community outlets. For example, sewing, hair care, tailoring and culinary specialties such as cake decorating and specialty baking are in demand. With minimal training, these types of skills can be immediately applied as a personal or commercial service. The results have been astounding as women and men acquire skills and an inspirational level of self-determination.
Amidst worldwide wavering economic situations, the W/NP programs have the added benefit of blanketing an individual’s spirit with a confidence that emerges when skills and experiences never thought possible, are acquired. Empowering people and providing educational opportunities is a gift that will leave a legacy for future generations.
WAHCE participates in the Learning Centers by providing training, funding, and above all supplies. See the lists below of baking and sewing items needed.
Ventures in People
Venture In People aims to bring hope to the Haitian people through appreciating and supporting their efforts to become self sufficient. They undertake projects that bring hope to the Haitian people through programs that promote health, education and community.
Ventures in People (VIP) feels that the hope for the future of Haiti lies in its children. This is why they offer a program whereby people can educate a child in Haiti for one school year for $160. That amount of money provides the student with the entrance fee, tuition, some books and uniforms. WAHCE participates by sponsoring six children.
WAHCE also sends water filters to Haiti and provides other support for the Haitian people.
