Jackson County has seen many changes over the years from its beginnings. In 1936, Walter O. Bean, Agriculture Agent, set up clothing and food meetings for homemaker clubs. At that time Jackson Counties 63 clubs joined the WEHC (Wisconsin Extension Homemaker’s Council). 22 counties were represented. We have had several name changes over the years including NFCE (National Family & Community Education).
In 1955 Wisconsin withdrew from this organization to form their own. In 1969 the name was changed to Wisconsin Extension Homemakers Council, then in 1993, the name was changed to – Wisconsin Association for Family and Community Education.
In 1994, Wisconsin voted to withdraw from the national association and choose the name, Wisconsin Association for Home and Community Education, Inc.
At present Jackson County HCE has seven clubs with 86 members.
